Escape to Taos this winter

Escape to Taos this winter

Planning a vacation to start the new year off right? Escape to Taos and enjoy these awesome wintertime activities!

Ring in 2018

With celebrations in town and in the mountains, it’s hard not to get excited about 2018 in Taos! On December 31, stay in the Historic Taos Plaza and celebrate with a pig roast, live music, a screening of the Times Square Countdown, and a dazzling fireworks display from 7:30 – 10 p.m. This is a family-friendly event and alcohol-free.

Another option is to head into the mountains and enjoy the torchlight parades and firework shows above the Taos area ski resorts. Events start at 6 p.m. at the resorts.

View works of art

Whether you stay on-site and explore Hotel La Fonda de Taos’ impressive “D.H. Lawrence Forbidden Art” collection or head into town to visit the many art galleries and shops, you’re sure to see unique works and often have the chance to meet the artist to discuss their work or technique. Take a piece home with you as a new addition for the new year.

Step back into the past

Though we’re excited about the possibilities 2018 brings, we always enjoy the chance to step back in time and preserve our history by visiting one of Taos’ great museums and historic sites.

Couple skiing

Jump on your healthy resolutions

Get a jumpstart on your fitness resolutions with the ski jumps at the surrounding ski resorts. Take a little half-day venture up into the mountains or plan a full-day adventure away from the historic center.

Visit the hot springs

Take your healthy resolutions a different way and focus on your overall wellbeing and take a relaxing and rejuvenating soak in the hot springs! Take your relaxation to the next level and book a spa service or massage treatment while you’re there!

Go shopping

Did Santa forget to bring you something you asked for? No worries, with Taos’ eclectic shops and markets, you’ll be able to take home a unique souvenir or a missed wish list item from the holiday season.

Dining

Take your taste buds on a culinary adventure around Taos with a stop at our most popular restaurants!

Pints of beer on a table

Enjoy a cold brew and live entertainment

Visit the Taos Mesa Brewing tap room for a pour of their hand-crafted brews and catch live music or a show on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday nights.

Take a tour

Let an expert guide show you the Taos they know and love on a tour. From ghost tours to trolley tours and everything in-between, these tours are designed to introduce you to our culture and highlight just how enchanting our land is. There’s also a fantastic self-guided walking tour of historic Taos that passes by 22 landmarks that you can do at your leisure and own pace.

Another option is to tour the Taos Pueblo. In early January, you can witness two Taos Pueblo ceremonies; the first on New Year’s Day with the Turtle Dance and the other on January 6 with the Deer or Buffalo Dance.

No matter what you fill your days with a getaway to Taos is a wonderful option for your first adventure of the new year. Make your first Taos vacation of 2018 even more special by booking one of our specials at Hotel La Fonda de Taos!
