I enjoyed my brief stay at Hotel La Fonda de Taos and I will be returning. It is a beautiful historic hotel with all the modern conveniences. The location is great for walks around the plaza area and adjoining neighborhoods. The stay was very nice and the coffee shop was a great place for morning coffee and a croissant.
This handsomely updated and elegant historic property (there's been a hotel on this location since 1820) is ideal if you wish to be in the heart of the action—it's directly on the plaza. The warm decor, easy proximity to nightlife and dining, and no-children-under-eight policy make this a great choice for a romantic getaway. The rooms are rustic yet elegant and are furnished in neutral colors with luxury linens and hand-tiled bathrooms. A luxury penthouse on the top floor can be joined with other suites into a super-posh four-bedroom retreat. La Fonda also houses Mosaic restaurant, which serves internationally inspired creative fare.
Hotel la Fonda de Taos is perfectly located on the Plaza in the historic center of Taos. You can walk to all the major sites and traffic (as opposed to the highway strip where most of the other hotels are located). Our room was a decent size and very comfortably furnished with a fully equipped bathroom and excellent shower. The hotel is quiet, with very nice common areas and a friendly staff. Parking is available and right behind the hotel. We would definitely recommend it.
My wife and I did the New Mexico Fly Fishing package with the La Fonda Hotel and Los Rios Anglers (just around the corner from the hotel). We had a great time. The package included a full day of guided fishing from Los Rios (which we spent in the Valle Vidal). Our guide was great - offering my novice wife a lot of advice and patience (and giving me just enough instruction to correct my mistakes). We spent a full day on the water and never felt any pressure to return home. The people at Los Rios helped us get setup for a second day with some friends (renting gear at very reasonable rates). I would highly recommend these guys if you're in the area and interested in fishing. The package also included massages (wonderful) and a dinner card for Joseph's Table (very, very good dinner). Our room overlooked the plaza so that we were able to watch the Thursday night music on the plaza from our window. The standard package was for 2 nights - we added 2 more. The rooms aren't cheap, but with the package deal, the ideal spot on the plaza, and the great service, I was very satisfied with the value. We'll definitely do it again.
I am so pleased to share this review. I stay here every time I come to Taos. The location is very central. Most of all, I appreciate being valued as a guest and treated as family. The rooms are lovely, the bed superb, the linens soft and visually appealing. No hassle parking and free beverages at the Starbucks. Security is good and the front doors are locked at night. The restaurant MOSAIC is very nice. The food is very reasonably priced and the service really good. The wait staff and the bar staff are friendly and knowledgeable...and never too pushy. There is always something visually arresting to look at. The jazz at the bar is very nice. Chef George uses wonderfully fresh ingredients and the salads are almost too pretty to eat. Can't wait to visit again.
We love boutique hotels and La Fonda didn't disappoint us. The staff was super friendly, the rooms were comfortable and coffee and tea were free for the length of stay at the coffee shop on the main floor. The absolute BEST of the stay was the chance to see D.H. Lawrence's "forbidden art." They have a conference room tucked into the historic walls with a curtain that can be drawn back on request to reveal nine of Lawrence's banned paintings. They do a few official showings a day, but if they aren't busy the front desk will let hotel guests in for their own viewing. Loved our stay there - we added a day to our trip just to stay there longer!
Loved this hotel, situated right on the plaza in Taos, New Mexico. Clean, comfortable rooms, within walking access to all the restaurants, galleries, and shops in the area. The oldest hotel in Taos, on the national register. The staff is great and very accommodating. Free coffee or tea for guests in the coffee shop, and a very nice upscale restaurant located in the hotel. Hotel guests get a discount on meals in Mosaic, the hotel restaurant. The price wasn't much more than the big chains, but oh so worth it.
