Skiing

I enjoyed my brief stay at Hotel La Fonda de Taos and I will be returning. It is a beautiful historic hotel with all the modern conveniences. The location is great for walks around the plaza area and adjoining neighborhoods. The stay was very nice and the coffee shop was a great place for morning coffee and a croissant.

Taos, New Mexico Activities

While Taos is often thought of as a summer getaway, winters here bring plenty of snow: enough to make three different ski resorts within a 45-minute drive of our Taos hotel! Taos Ski Valley, the closest, is just a half hour’s drive from town. A full-size mountain with 13 lifts, Taos Ski Valley offers access to over a thousand acres of terrain, including a hike up Kachina Peak of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

Don’t worry about too-difficult slopes, either: the Valley is notable for providing Taos snowboarding and skiing trails with an equal amount of beginner, intermediate and expert runs. If you’re new to the sport altogether, or would like a refresher course before heading out on your own, their ski school has the distinction of being rated one of the best in America.

You can also find the Red River and Sipapu resorts at a slightly farther distance than Taos Ski Valley. All three resorts can make skiing in Taos a memorable part of your next stay in our Taos, New Mexico lodging.
