Taos Mountain Balloon Rally

image of hot air balloon over mountain valley

Every year on the last full weekend in October colorful hot air balloons rise to meet the clouds as they lift off the ground and float over the Taos landscape with blanketed colors of reds, oranges, and yellows. This colorful spectacle is one of the best reasons to visit Taos in the fall! Read here to learn more about the Taos Mountain Balloon Rally and discover one of the most beloved festivals in Taos.

Dawn patrol

Rise early to watch as the crews inflate and fire up their balloons in preparation for the morning ascension. This is a great opportunity to see the inner workings of these gentle giants up close and personal before taking flight high in the sky.

Hot air balloons take flight

Grab your morning coffee and watch the ascension of the balloons take flight, the main event of the entire festival. Roughly 35-50 hot air balloons lift off into the clear, cool dawn of the Taos sunrise, offering one of the most spectacular sites you will see! This sunrise liftoff takes place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings.

Tether rides for children

Bring the children out Friday morning for their chance to ride in a hot air balloon. This event is fun for the entire family!

“Balloomenshine”

Spend Saturday evening amongst the glow of the balloons as the crews light up the hot air balloons for their night-time performance.

Balloon rally parade

On Saturday afternoon, the Balloon Rally Parade will begin. The streets of Taos are lined with spectators waiting to catch a glimpse of parade participants dressed up in their best Halloween costumes. It is the perfect way to get into the spirit of the season!

For a full schedule of dates and times for the event visit the event’s website.
