Summer 2017 events in Taos

There’s always something happening in Taos, from cultural events to musical performances! Check out the lineup of the summer 2017 events you can catch in July and August.

Movies on the Green

On Wednesday nights, relive your childhood with a free screening of family-friendly films at Kit Carson Park. Gates open at 6 p.m. with the movies starting around dusk and candy and snacks will be available at the concession area. Movies on the Green runs until August 16 this year.

See upcoming movie screenings for Movies on the Green.

Taos Plaza Live

From the end of May through the end of August, head into the Taos Plaza every Thursday night from 6 – 8 p.m. for free entertainment. Many of the bands are local or from surrounding towns in New Mexico and range in style from bluegrass to swing.

Las Fiestas de Taos

Celebrate Taos’ rich cultural heritage at Fiestas de Taos, July 21 – 23, at the Historic Taos Plaza. Events include a commemorative Mass, two parades, music and dance performances, as well as the chance to purchase delicious cuisine.

South Boundary BigRide

The South Boundary BigRide, July 22, is the perfect race for cycling enthusiasts! Though not for the faint of heart as it spans 40 miles, you’ll take a scenic ride from Angel Fire Resort to the Taos Youth and Family Center. The event is timed for serious athletes though bikers that just want a stunning and fun ride are more than welcome to enter.

Taos Pueblo Ceremonies

Visit the historic Taos Pueblo and witness one of their revered ceremonies and feast days. The Santiago Feast Day is held on July 25 and the Santa Ana Feast Day is July 26. Please remember that these are religious ceremonies and photography is not permitted, nor is it polite to applaud when the dance is over.

Music from Angel Fire

From mid-August to early September, enjoy performances of chamber, classical, baroque, and contemporary music. Music from Angel Fire is in its 34th year and this year the themes reflect cultures and music from “Around the World.” The festival does host a few free events with one being a performance by The Brass Project at the Taos Plaza on Saturday, Aug. 19 at 5 p.m.

Taos Ski Valley Up & Over 10k Trail Run

Bring your best running shoes in August for the 12th Annual Taos Ski Valley U & Over Trail Run. Held on August 5, this race is set against the beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountains with challenging elevation gains. Registration opens at 7 a.m. with a 9 a.m. start and is followed by an awards ceremony and after-party at noon.

There’s always something to do in Taos, but timing your getaway around these events will only make your vacation that much more special. And you can stay close to the action in the Plaza by booking a room at Hotel La Fonda de Taos!
