Must-Do Spots for Skiing in Taos

Taos is known for being surrounded by the gorgeous Sangre de Cristo Mountains and historic Pueblo architecture. As autumn rolls around in New Mexico, snow can blanket the historic city as early as October. Once the snow begins to fall, people start to gear up and head to the mountains for some skiing in Taos. The heavy snowfall and vast area of mountains provide multiple areas to ski in Taos. Discover our favorite spots to jump on a lift and have a great skiing experience!

Angel Fire Ski Resort

Angel Fire Ski Resort is 23 miles east of Taos and nestled right in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. They offer a variety of terrains and have 80+ runs in their ski park. Nighttime skiing is available if you’re looking to ski under the New Mexico moon too! If you’re a skiing beginner, they offer group and private lessons to get you ready to hit the slopes.

Taos Ski Valley Resort

This ski resort stands out against others with its location between Colorado and Texas. Taos Ski Valley Resort is only 50 miles from the Colorado border and close enough to Texas for Texans to flock to during the winter. The ski resort has 110 trails for beginners to experts, all surrounded by beautiful New Mexico nature.

Sipapu Ski & Summer Resort

Sipapu is only 35 minutes from downtown Taos and is famous for being one of New Mexico’s oldest ski resorts. They cater to all ski levels and have 43 total runs. They’re open during the summer for scenic opportunities for disc golfing and open their doors for skiing in November.

Red River Ski & Summer Area

Located in the Enchanted Circle, Red River Ski is home to 64 runs for skiing. Their terrains are a terrific balance for beginners, intermediates, and more advanced skiers. Take advantage of their terrain park if you’re looking for a more adventurous day.
