Learn something new in Taos
Taos is in the heart of the Land of Enchantment and if you’re looking for a new way to stay enchanted with the things to do in Taos, why not try adding some self-enrichment to your travel itinerary with a workshop or class? As the kids head back to school, you can head into the classroom with the variety of classes and workshops in Taos!
Taos Art School
Sign up for a workshop for beginners, and just for adults, with the Taos Art School. The school offers a variety of workshops that are designed to teach you the basics and go at a pace anyone can follow. Some of the classes in this category include:
- Painting for the complete beginner
- Beginning horse drawing
- Painting in Taos: Mountains, old churches, vineyards & wild rivers
- Pastel painting Northern New Mexico
The school also has pottery, weaving, cooking, and photography classes for all skill levels.
Clay pottery
Taos Clay Studio has a variety of half-day classes, workshops, and classes each night of the week if you want to dive deep into clay pottery. One of the more popular ones, especially for Taos visitors, is the two-hour pots and raku fire experience. You’ll glaze pots made by local artists and then the pots are put in the raku kiln. Then, the ceramics are flash cooled so you can take home a souvenir!
The class is offered daily at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. and is $125 for an individual or $175 for a couple.
Cooking Studio Taos
This’ll be one time it’ll be fun to have too many cooks in the kitchen – when you take a cooking class at Cooking Studio Taos! Most of these classes are themed around a specific cuisine or seasonal event or holiday. Some of the fun classes include:

- Thai cuisine
- Italian cuisine
- North African flavors
- Brunch recipes
- New Mexican and Mexican cuisine
- Mediterranean cuisine
- Spanish tapas
- East Indian cuisine

A cooking class is a perfect outing for a date in Taos, though it’ll be an afternoon date as most of the classes are from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. At the end of the class, you’ll enjoy the meal you’ve just prepared with the rest of the chefs in training.
Photography
