Annual Yuletide Caroling and Tree Lighting
The holidays in Taos officially kick off with the annual lighting of the Town Christmas tree during the 31st Annual Yuletide Caroling and Tree Lighting event. Iconic holiday guests will include Mr. & Mrs. Claus along with The Mean One, Mr. Grinch. To keep you warm, complimentary hot chocolate and chocolate chip cookies will be served.

Lighting of Ledoux
Get your camera ready for the lighting of the historic narrow Ledoux Street. Lights from luminarias and bonfires light the street in this holiday tradition. Local galleries, shops, and museums stay open late, serving festive food and drinks.

Bonfires on Bent Street
Head out to Bent Street for a festive evening of bonfires, luminaries, Aztec dancers, and carolers. Feed your soul with different shops serving posole, green chile, enchiladas, and cookies.

Christmas Eve Events
At sunset on Christmas Eve enjoy the Christmas Eve procession at Taos Pueblo. A true representation of Taos culture with the procession of the Virgin Mary, rifle salutes from ancient adobe rooftops, and a rich celebration of heritage are all enjoyed at this annual event.
Or head up to the slopes the day before Christmas for the Christmas Eve Torchlight Parade. Watch as skiers make their way down the slopes with nothing but a torchlight guiding their way. All area ski resorts participate, lighting up the Taos ski valley. The event starts at 6:00 PM on Christmas Eve. This tradition is also enjoyed on December 31st to help ring in the new year.
Taos Pueblo Deer or Matachinas Dance
Yuletide in Taos continues with a special event Christmas Day at the Taos Pueblo. Watch as Taos Pueblo members perform the ancient Native American ceremonial dance, which honors the winter season. As this is a ceremonial dance please exercise appropriate behavior when attending.
New Year’s Eve Celebration on the Taos Plaza
The holidays in Taos are not complete until you attend the Taos New Year’s Eve celebration. Enjoy an entire evening of activities and fun to help ring in the new year. Activities include the Mayor’s pig roast, live music, a balloon release, and a firework display. This is a non-alcoholic, family-friendly event.
