Next, visit the Taos Pueblo, a UNESCO World Heritage site that has continuously inhabited for over a thousand years. Don’t forget to try traditional Native American cuisine, like fry bread and green chili stew.
Rio Grande Gorge Bridge
We’ll go to the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge as we head out of town. This impressive steel bridge spans 1,280 feet across the Rio Grande, offering breathtaking canyon views below. If you’re feeling adventurous, try bungee jumping or zip lining off the bridge for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Questa
Continuing our journey, we’ll pass through the charming town of Questa, where we can stop and explore the Red River Fish Hatchery. This facility produces millions of trout yearly, and visitors can learn about raising and stocking fish in New Mexico’s lakes and streams.
Carson National Forest
Next, we’ll enter the Carson National Forest, where the scenery becomes even more stunning. As we wind our way up to the highest point on the Enchanted Circle, we’ll pass through the quaint village of Red River. This popular ski resort town offers year-round activities like hiking, fishing, and horseback riding. Don’t forget to stop at the Red River Ski Area, where you can take a scenic chairlift ride or hit the slopes in the winter.
Eagle Nest
As we near the end of our journey, we’ll reach the town of Eagle Nest, nestled at the base of Wheeler Peak, the highest point in New Mexico. Here, we can explore the Eagle Nest Lake State Park, where you can fish, boat, or hike around the picturesque lake.
Finally, we’ll return to Taos, enchanted by the stunning landscapes and vibrant culture of northern New Mexico.
