Celebrate Christmas Eve and see the brave skiers rely on flares to show them the way down the mountain around 6 p.m. Most of the ski resorts have a torchlight parade and also have scheduled fireworks displays over the holiday season.

Taos Pueblo Feast Days

December 24 – 25

Visit the Taos Pueblo and watch the ceremonial dances in honor of specific Feast Days in the community. These days may honor the Catholic or Pueblo traditions and religious ceremonies and involve eating and visiting with family. If you are fortunate to visit the Pueblo on a Feast Day, please be courteous and respectful to the community and do not take photos of the dance nor applaud when it’s over. Upcoming Feast Days include: the Procession of the Virgin Mary on December 24 and the Deer or Matachinas Dance on December 25.

Taos Ski Valley

Activities

  • Warm up in the hot springs: Take a dip in the hot springs or book spa services at the Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs, just about an hour away from our hotel!
  • Snow sports: Plan a day away from the Plaza and out on the slopes for skiing, snowboarding, tubing, or snowshoeing at the surrounding Taos ski resorts!
  • Wine or beer tasting: Stay warm inside and out and get in the holiday spirit by sipping some spirits at one of Taos’ wineries or breweries!
  • See a Taos landmark: Visit the San Francisco de Asis Church that’s been a part of Taos’ landscape since the 1800s.
  • View works of art: See local works of art at the many art galleries that call Taos home. Who knows, you might even end up buying yourself your own gift for the holidays.
  • Shopping: Shop the popular pop-up, Taos Folk, starting Black Friday for the perfect holiday gifts for everyone on your list. The pop-up is in the Stables Gallery and features hand-made creations, stunning art, jewelry and accessories, and unique collections.
  • Dining: There’s no shortage of restaurants for decadent meals and amazing Mexican cuisine but over the holiday season you simply cannot pass up on eating “Christmas” in Taos by mixing red and green chile!
