Thrill Seeking Taos Activities
Over millions years, the mighty Rio Grand carved its way through the cover basalt flows of the Taos Volcano Plateau to form the Rio Grande Gorge. At over 600 feet deep at some points, the gorge is both impressive to look at and a perfect location for Taos rafting! While the most spectacular views can be found atop the gorge and the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, the best way to experience this grandeur is to venture through the gorge on a Taos river rafting trip.
Three different companies in the area offer these Taos rafting trips: Cottam’s Rio Grande Rafting, Big River Raft Trips and Far Flung Adventures. Two of the most popular routes are Racecourse, featuring Class I to III rapids among the cliffs of Pilar Canyon, and Lower Gorge, a more relaxed float among beautiful New Mexico scenery. Special options like the “Steaks & Raft Trip” and stand-up paddleboarding are also among these companies’ Taos activities!
