Hot Air Ballooning
Things To Do in Taos New Mexico
A Taos hot air balloon ride means a chance to see majestic, 360-degree high-altitude views from a remarkably calm and safe vantage point. It’s a perfect way to explore Taos and the New Mexico landscape during a stay at our hotel, and with two different companies in the area to choose from, it’s easy to arrange one before you visit!
There is Pueblo Balloon and Eske’s Paradise Balloons here in town. Flights begin around sunrise, and usually make a drift down the Rio Grande Gorge. 800 feet deep at places, the gorge reminds many visitors of the Grand Canyon. Depending on your trip and the day’s conditions, your pilot may lower the balloon until its basket touches the Rio Grande river—a “splash and dash”. Both companies offer a champagne toast after landing.
Flight conditions around Taos on the whole are favorable enough that our town even hosts an annual hot air balloon festival. The Taos Mountain Balloon Rally takes place over three days every October. There are only 20 to 50 entries—plenty to see without too much crowding. Vendors and competitions—not to mention incredible photo opportunities—make the Rally a must-attend event.
